It's that time of year again when we focus on love. We all want to feel loved. Who doesn't?? It's the best feeling in the world...to be surrounded by this joy, provided comfort through the good and the bad and have someone there for you unconditionally & always. Well obviously we feel this way for people. But we all know you can love things too!! Remember your favorite toy you pleaded to get for your birthday or that special pair of shoes you saved up for and wore all the time. These items probably got worn out and ragged after a while. When the newness wears off you can grow tired. This doesn't mean you have to find a newer model to feel the love again though. Love can be rekindled. No this isn't a relationship blog.... I'm talking about loving your home again!
People say there's no place like home. We all feel at ease and relaxed at home. But don't you want to love it when you walk through the door? Don't you want to be proud to show it off to your friends? Well it's time to rekindle that love of your home. This month I'll be talking about different ways to do just that.
The first way is an easy approach. Color can do wonders! So why not start with your favorite color?! I previously wrote about using your wardrobe to choose colors for your decor, read here. This is a perfect place to start. Most people tend to have clothes in colors they love. This can be main pieces or even accessories. Even if you think you know your favorite color, check out your wardrobe and see if there are any clues to what colors your really love. Wearing them says you like to be around them and they make you feel good.
Once you have selected a color, you need to find ways to bring it into your home. You can certainly go bold and paint a wall this color. A fresh coat of paint is one of the most impactful and inexpensive changes you can make. A simpler approach may be just simply using a few well chosen accessories in this color. Try pillows, candles, a bowl or vase, or even flowers. Some other suggestions are a throw blanket, picture frames, a tray, books, drapes or even a rug. Sprinkling some of these accessories around your home will really make a big difference. A little of this can go a long way especially if the color is on the bold side. Don't be afraid. Color really can change the mood of a room and freshen it up. Plus if its your favorite color, what better way to start loving your home again than by having this color in your space!!
If you already have your favorite color in your home, try varying it a little. If navy blue is the one you love, try adding a pale blue or turquoise to the pallet. If you try mixing in various shades of a color, it will still work but will add a fresh new twist to the look.
These are simple ways to begin infusing a new life into your home without breaking the bank or making drastic changes. Have fun with it and experiment with some color. Try these ideas and you'll be well on your way to loving your home once again!
